|Today, Governor Jeb Bush, chairman of the Foundation for Excellence in Education, released the following statement on Hanna Skandera, who announced she would be leaving her post as New Mexico’s Secretary of Education:
“Hanna is one of our nation’s most effective and dedicated education leaders. Her tireless and determined efforts to transform education have changed the lives of thousands of New Mexico families and students.
“Under the leadership of Governor Martinez, Hanna and their team, performance measures across the board are on the rise. More New Mexico students are graduating and taking AP courses, the number of ‘A’ and ‘B’ schools has increased by more than 25 percent and more children are reading and doing math on grade level. New Mexico’s laser focus on student outcomes and real accountability for real results has transformed the state’s schools and better prepared students for success in college and in life.
“I have had the honor of working with some of the nation’s most brilliant minds in education, and Hanna is among them. I am proud to call her a friend and colleague and know she will continue to contribute to the field of education policy for years to come.”
