Statement from Patricia Levesque, CEO of the Foundation for Excellence in Education (ExcelinEd), on the U.S. Department of Education enforcing need for assessments:
“We are pleased with the U.S. Department of Education’s strong position supporting student assessments and the critical role they play in K-12 education.
“While this year’s pandemic disrupted many consecutive years of data on classroom learning, a disruption of two years or longer on student assessment data—suggested by some—would be unthinkable.
“When children are not in school, learning loss is real. We cannot help students recover from the pandemic’s impacts if we don’t know what they need.
“ExcelinEd is deeply committed to improving equity and closing learning gaps in states across the nation. Assessments provide the very tools we need to create a path forward to improvement and ensuring education systems are serving each and every student well.”
