Governor Jeb Bush, founder and chairman of the Foundation for Excellence in Education (ExcelinEd), announced the addition of Bruce V. Rauner, 42nd Governor of Illinois, to the organization’s board of directors.
“Governor Rauner is a bold champion for students and their success, with a deep commitment to expanding opportunity, fair funding for schools, and 21st-century education to workforce pathways.
“I am excited about the decades of public policy, business and philanthropic leadership he brings to our board, and I look forward to his partnership as we support states across the nation in transforming education.”

Bruce Rauner brought bold reforms, fiscal responsibility and transparency to Illinois, along with a strong focus on students and the state’s education system.
Notably, Governor Rauner invested record funding in K-12 and early education, achieved equal funding for public charter schools and created an historic tuition scholarship tax credit program. In a case decided by the U.S Supreme Court, he worked to eliminate mandatory union dues for public employees, enabling schools and state and local governments across the U.S. to become Right-to-Work.
Prior to public service, Governor Rauner led private equity and venture capital investments, helping more than 200 companies succeed in diverse industries including business services, technology and health care. His board-level leadership has served numerous civic, philanthropic and conservation organizations in Illinois, Florida and nationwide.
He received the Daley Medal from the Illinois Venture Capital Association for extraordinary support to the Illinois economy and the Murie-Broome Award from The Wilderness Society for outstanding work in wilderness preservation.
Governor Rauner is an avid outdoorsman and father of six children.
“Educating our children is our most important collective responsibility. I look forward to working with Governor Bush and the talented ExcelinEd team to help provide outstanding educational opportunities for every student in America.”
