During her State of the State address yesterday evening, Governor Kay Ivey implored leaders to join her in strengthening Alabama’s education pathways from Pre-K education to workforce training.
In her address, Gov. Ivey highlighted her Strong Start, Strong Finish initiative, which calls for every student to have a solid reading foundation by the end of third grade. “For Alabamians to have career opportunities, they must be prepared when the right job comes along. My education initiative, Strong Start, Strong Finish, does just that. Under Strong Start, Strong Finish, we will coordinate our efforts and bring all stakeholders to the table in order to improve education all the way from Pre-K to the workforce.”
Without strong reading skills, students are hindered in achieving their full potential both in the classroom and in life.
We thank Gov. Ivey for her leadership and commitment to early literacy and to ensuring each and every Alabama child has access to a quality education.
