In his final State of the State address yesterday, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam touted the rapid gains Tennessee has made in education. He also urged leaders to join him in continuing to improve academic standards, accountability and educational opportunities for all students. Additionally, he prioritized preparing students for skilled trades in high demand.
“Tennessee is now viewed as a change agent, an innovator in the world of public education,” Gov. Haslam said. “By accelerating the gains we’ve made and, most importantly, staying true to the reforms in place, we will ensure that no matter how much money a family has, and no matter what neighborhood a child grows up in, every student will have an opportunity to learn.”
“We must continue to push forward with policies that have led us to be the fastest improving state in the nation: high standards, assessments tied to those standards, and educator evaluations that include measuring how students perform on those assessments.”
We thank Gov. Haslam for his leadership and commitment to ensuring each and every Tennessee child has access to a quality education.
