On Friday, the Alabama Supreme Court issued a ruling in the case of LEAD Education Foundation v. Alabama Education Association, in favor of LEAD Academy, a Montgomery charter school that sought to open this year. With this ruling, LEAD Academy can now open its school to begin serving students and families.

“The Court’s ruling is a clear victory for Montgomery families, especially those struggling to find an educational setting that meets the needs of their children. We are pleased that the Court focused on the needs of students, rather than education systems, so that more students have access to an education that prepares them for lifelong success.”

There are currently two operating charter schools in Alabama, with five more approved to open in the coming years.
