State Initiatives
Launched in 2009, the State Initiatives program is the vehicle that supports states across the country as they advance and adopt bold education reforms.
State activities generally fall into the following phases:
- Identifying a champion – governor, lawmaker, state education chief or public policy organization - to lead the charge of reform
- Working with the state champion to develop a customized plan of action
- Building support for the reform through legislative testimony, presentations to business groups and media interviews
- Providing technical support to ensure successful implementation
The cornerstone of the reform movement is the Florida Formula for Student Achievement, which produced a renaissance in public education in the Sunshine State and made education in Florida a model for the nation. To learn more about the Florida Formula, download Florida's Education Revolution.
Our reform agenda is based on 5 principles:
- Data-Driven Accountability for Schools
- High Expectations and Rigorous Academic Standards
- Funding for Achievement
- School Choice for Families
- Rewarding Effective Teachers
State Initiatives’ also provides program support to the Digital Learning Now! initiative as states seek to harness the power of technology to provide every student with a customized education.
